American Connemara Pony Society Region X

California, Nevada, Hawaii

Im just curious what others are doing with the rest of the season? More Dressage, Jumping, Eventing, Parelli Natural Horsemanship, Driving, Hunting, Pleasure, Trail, Pony Club?
Now that we've had our big Pony Show Max and I have a few things left on the schedule:
Schooling at Woodside
Clinic with Jimmy Woofard: http://www.eventfulacres.net/Calendar%20of%20Events.htm
Regional Adult Amatuer Championships in Dressage: http://www.sfpcds.org/shows/shows_2.shtml
M & M?
Young Event Horse at Woodside (october event)

Just interested in what others are doing?

Thanks for asking. :) My plans aren't as noteworthy as yours for sure! I hope you do well and have a great time with your ponies. I want to start taking my pony out on trail. I envy those who can just ride out of their stable. Here in San Diego County, you really need a truck and trailer. I don't have either one. :( My pony is green on trail, but she has a calm disposition. I plan on riding with other mellow horses. I will also be working on my Level 3 Parelli.

What is involved with your Parelli Level 3? Its sounds like lots of fun. We also enjoy trail riding and have some access off our property....though nothing big. We hope to do Lake Oroville when Max's young partbred is started this fall.

Level 3 consists of Liberty, On Line and Freestyle (riding). The Parelli Seven Games which are games horses play with eachother, are used in creative ways, with obstacles, whatever your imagination can think up. In Liberty you want the horse to stick to you with no halter or anything on them. They should be able to side pass away and towards and over obstacles ie barrels, circle, jump, go through or over obstacles with subtle signals, have drive and draw, lead by the leg, ear, chin, mane, back up using tail, load into trailer by pointing to it, unload by pulling a couple tail hairs. Move the forehand, hindquarters. Practical things like needle prep, holding the tongue, and teaching the horse to yield to the slightest pressure. I am leaving out a lot here. On Line is the prep for Liberty. You don't do all these things at Liberty until they are excellent On Line. Level 3 Freestyle's goal is to ride with two carrot sticks, using your reins less and less. Reins are a casual rein. This is leading to Level 4 Freestyle where you ride with a neck string and 1 carrot stick. All this time, the horse is learning to follow your body's movement and relying less and less on the reins. Level 4 will add Finesse which is leading towards collection and excellence. I know I did a lousy job of explaining. : )

Hi Roxanne,
Having watched some videos what you are saying makes since. I bet your girl is infinitely well suited to doing the Parelli training and loving every minute of it! What fun! Keep us posted with your progess!

Ummm Roxanne, I don't need a horse and trailer to ride out on trail :) I don't do Parelli but I do lots of trail riding!

My lovely pony, having risen above the "Your failure to plan is not my emergency" retort, was lovely at a dressage schooling show this weekend. I have been very busy all summer, so we've just been hacking out, not doing any serious schooling, not even being in an arena except the day before the show. I lucked in to someone else's unused entry, and got a last minute chance to ride. Bridey did great, having enough basic quality to beat a warmblood and have the top score at training 2 at the show even when not at her best performance. Best of all, we got the comment "Well-matched pair" which still has me very, very pleased. Ponies rule!

Now I'm psyched to get her to some recognized shows in the spring, ideally with actual preparation.

Hi,

Rachel and I couldn't make it to the June show up north because we had no way to get there. But... great news! We are getting a truck and a trailer very soon. The trailer is a Trails West Adventure 2 MX. 2 horse slant load. We love it. I'm 95% on the truck choice. F150 XLT 5.4/V8 with max tow package. 2010. If anyone has any news/knowledge about this choice, please let me know before it's too late.
We WILL be at the 2010 June show.If anyone from San Diego needs a ride we will have 1 spot. I'd like them to split the gas.
Willow will be attending his first show on the 22nd of this month. Wish me well as he is NOT a calm little boy. He is fiesty and full of spunk. (I love that about him, but not so sure how it will fly in the show ring) He may chase after other horses. Not to be mean, but to meet them. I'll drop a line afterwards to share news of my adventure.
